What Is CERT?
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about
disaster preparedness for hazards that may affect their community and trains them
in basic disaster-response skills.
CERT training includes fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization,
disaster medical operations, and other skills that help residents safely assist
their families, neighbors, and communities following an emergency.
CERT provides a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and
organization. During a major disaster, trained CERT volunteers can help with
appropriate tasks while professional police, fire, and medical responders
concentrate on the most critical emergencies.
